When you're looking for a fishing trip that delivers both comfort and serious action, Captain Ron's Charter has you covered. Based right here in Gulfport, MS, this isn't your typical day on the water - it's a full 6-hour adventure with one of the Gulf Coast's most experienced captains. You'll be fishing aboard the Lucky Enough, a spacious boat that's built for both comfort and performance. With over 31 years of experience reading these waters, Captain Ron knows exactly where to find the fish, whether you want to stay inshore for some steady action or head offshore for the big stuff. The boat handles up to 4 anglers, so you've got plenty of room to move around and fight fish without bumping into each other.
The Lucky Enough isn't just another fishing boat - she's designed with serious anglers in mind. The large cockpit gives you plenty of space to work fish, and when the Mississippi sun gets hot, there's ample shade to keep you comfortable throughout the day. Nobody wants to worry about facilities on a long trip, so the clean restroom on board means you can focus on what really matters: catching fish. Captain Ron runs both inshore and offshore trips depending on what's biting and what you're after. Inshore trips target the backcountry waters, grass flats, and structure where redfish and trout love to hang out. When conditions are right, offshore runs open up opportunities for bigger fish and more variety. The 6-hour format gives you enough time to really get into the rhythm of fishing without feeling rushed.
Captain Ron adapts his approach based on the species you're targeting and current conditions. For redfish, you'll often find yourself working shallow flats with live bait or artificial lures, looking for those telltale copper-colored backs cruising in skinny water. Sea trout fishing typically involves working grass beds and drop-offs where these speckled beauties ambush baitfish. When targeting sheepshead around structure, you'll be using smaller hooks and fresh shrimp or fiddler crabs - these fish have incredibly sharp teeth and can steal bait like pros. For blacktip sharks, it's all about getting the right bait in the right spot and holding on tight when they take off on those screaming runs. The captain provides all the tackle and knows exactly what presentation works best for each species in these specific waters.
"Absolutely awsome captain and deck hand these guys went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time on the water they made the trip a 10/10 best captain and deck hand on the gulf coast" - Edward. "We caught or limit of 6 Redfish plus almost 3 more limits plus a dozen Jack's. Captain said it was the best fishing he's had in a couple years. Threw back more than we kept! At multiple points of the trip we had fish on all lines in the water at the same time, 6 at one point and 5 another time. Highly recommended. Trip of a lifetime! Thanks to both the captain and deckhand for helping us and the kids catch so many." - Justin. "We had such a g treat time. Thank you for carrying us out and thank you for all the fish we caught. I will recommend capt Ron's charter." - Rachel.
Redfish are the crown jewel of Mississippi Gulf Coast fishing, and for good reason. These copper-colored fighters typically range from 18 to 30 inches in our waters, with some real bulls pushing 40 inches or more. They're available year-round but really light up during fall and spring when they school up in massive numbers. What makes redfish so special is their fighting ability - they'll make powerful runs and use their broad sides to pull drag. You'll find them in everything from 2 feet of water to 15 feet, cruising flats, working oyster bars, and ambushing bait around structure.
Sea trout, or speckled trout as locals call them, are another Gulf Coast favorite that keeps anglers coming back. These beautiful fish have distinctive spots along their sides and can reach sizes up to 25 inches, though most fall in the 14-18 inch range. Spring and fall offer the best opportunities, especially when water temperatures are in the 70s. They're ambush predators that love grass beds and drop-offs, and they'll absolutely hammer a well-presented lure or live bait. The fight isn't as bulldoggish as a redfish, but they make up for it with acrobatic jumps and head-shaking runs.
Sheepshead might be the most underrated fish in these waters. These black-and-white striped beauties are notorious bait thieves with human-like teeth that can crush barnacles and crabs. They typically run 12-16 inches but can get much larger, especially around offshore structure. Winter months are prime time for sheepshead as they move to deeper waters to spawn. They're incredibly wary and require finesse fishing, but once you hook one, you'll appreciate their surprising strength and the challenge they present.
Blacktip sharks bring pure excitement to any fishing trip. These sleek predators average 3-6 feet in our area and are famous for their aerial displays when hooked. They're most active during warmer months and can be found both inshore and offshore. When a blacktip grabs your bait, get ready for an immediate screaming run followed by spectacular jumps as they try to throw the hook. They're perfect for anglers who want to experience the raw power of a shark without dealing with something too massive to handle safely.
Captain Ron's 6-hour trips offer the perfect balance of time on the water and fish-catching potential. With over three decades of experience reading these waters and a boat designe

Blacktip sharks are some of the most exciting fish you'll tangle with offshore. These sleek predators average 4-5 feet but can reach up to 9 feet and over 200 pounds. What makes them special is their acrobatic jumps - they'll launch 20 feet out of the water when hooked. You'll find them in 30-200 feet of water around reefs and structure, especially during warmer months from spring through early fall. They're aggressive feeders that respond well to a good chum line of cut mackerel or herring. Guests love the heart-pounding fight and those spectacular aerial shows. Use heavy tackle with circle hooks and braided line - they're strong and fast. My go-to tip is to keep a steady chum slick going and be patient. Once they show up, the action can be non-stop.

Redfish are the ultimate inshore game fish, easily recognized by their copper-bronze color and distinctive black spot near the tail. These tough fighters typically run 20-35 inches and put up a serious battle in shallow water. You'll find them cruising grass flats, oyster bars, and marsh edges in just 1-4 feet of water - sometimes so shallow their backs are exposed. Spring through fall offers the best action, but they bite year-round here. What guests love most is watching them tail in skinny water and the drag-screaming runs when hooked. They're also excellent eating with firm, mild meat. The trick is staying quiet when you spot them feeding - any noise will spook the whole school. Cast past them and work your bait back slowly through their path.

Speckled trout are one of our most reliable inshore targets, running 14-24 inches and 1-5 pounds on average. These silvery fish with dark spots love our grass flats and shallow bays, especially during cooler months when they school up in deeper channels. Spring and fall are prime time, but we catch them year-round. What makes them special is their soft bite and excellent table fare - white, flaky meat that's hard to beat. They're willing biters on live shrimp, soft plastics, and topwater plugs. The key is not fighting them too hard since their mouths are tender. Best fishing happens early morning and late evening in 2-6 feet of water around grass beds. Try working your lure slow and steady - they prefer a subtle presentation over aggressive action.

These gray-and-black striped fish are some of the most unique catches in our waters. Known as "convict fish" for their prison stripes, sheepshead run 1-8 pounds typically, but we've seen some bruisers hit 20 pounds. What really sets them apart are their human-like teeth - built for crushing barnacles and crabs around docks, bridges, and oil rigs. You'll find them year-round, but spring through fall gives you the best action when they're feeding heavy before spawning. Guests love the challenge - they're notorious bait thieves with light nibbles before committing. The payoff is sweet, mild white meat that's worth the effort. Pro tip: get your bait tight to the structure and set the hook hard when you feel that first tap - they've got powerful jaws.
