Captain Ron's been running charters out of Gulfport for over three decades, and let me tell you – this guy knows these Mississippi Gulf Coast waters like the back of his hand. When you book a six-hour trip with Captain Ron's Charter, you're not just getting a fishing trip, you're getting a masterclass in Gulf Coast angling from someone who's seen it all. The Lucky Enough is his pride and joy – a spacious, comfortable boat that's built for serious fishing but designed with your comfort in mind. You'll have plenty of room to move around in that big cockpit, shade when you need it, and even a clean restroom onboard. Whether you're planning a family outing or a guys' trip, this charter accommodates up to four anglers and welcomes kids as young as eight years old.
Six hours gives Captain Ron plenty of time to put you on the fish and show you why the Mississippi Gulf Coast has some of the best fishing in the South. You'll start your day meeting at the dock in Gulfport, where Captain Ron and his experienced deckhand will get you set up with everything you need. The Lucky Enough is equipped with top-quality rods, reels, and tackle – all included in your trip price. Depending on what's biting and what you're after, you might find yourself working the inshore waters around structure and grass flats, or if conditions are right, making a run offshore to deeper waters where bigger fish roam. The boat's large cockpit gives everyone room to fish comfortably, and when you hook into something good, you'll have plenty of space to fight it without getting tangled up with your buddies. Captain Ron's approach is all about having fun while putting fish in the boat – he'll teach you techniques, share stories, and make sure everyone gets their shot at landing something memorable.
Captain Ron keeps his tackle box stocked with everything you need for Mississippi Gulf Coast fishing success. You'll be using conventional and spinning tackle matched to whatever species you're targeting that day. For inshore action, expect to throw live bait like shrimp and small baitfish around structure, docks, and grass beds. Captain Ron knows exactly which baits work best in different seasons and conditions – sometimes it's a popping cork with live shrimp, other times it might be cut bait on the bottom or artificial lures worked through the water column. If you head offshore, you'll likely be trolling with spoons and diving plugs, or anchoring up on productive bottom structure with heavier tackle and fresh bait. The deckhand will help with everything from baiting hooks to netting fish, so even if you're new to saltwater fishing, you'll feel confident and supported throughout the trip. All the gear is included, but if you have favorite rods or reels you'd like to bring, Captain Ron welcomes that too.
"Absolutely awsome captain and deck hand these guys went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time on the water they made the trip a 10/10 best captain and deck hand on the gulf coast" - Edward. "We caught or limit of 6 Redfish plus almost 3 more limits plus a dozen Jack's. Captain said it was the best fishing he's had in a couple years. Threw back more than we kept! At multiple points of the trip we had fish on all lines in the water at the same time, 6 at one point and 5 another time. Highly recommended. Trip of a lifetime! Thanks to both the captain and deckhand for helping us and the kids catch so many." - Justin. "We had such a g treat time. Thank you for carrying us out and thank you for all the fish we caught. I will recommend capt Ron's charter." - Rachel.
Redfish are the bread and butter of Mississippi Gulf Coast fishing, and Captain Ron knows exactly where to find them year-round. These copper-colored fighters love shallow water around oyster bars, grass beds, and dock pilings, especially during the warmer months from late spring through early fall. What makes reds so special is their aggressive strike and bulldogging fight – they'll pull drag and make runs that get your heart pumping. Most of the fish you'll encounter range from 18 to 27 inches, perfect slot-size fish that are great for the dinner table. Redfish are sight feeders, so Captain Ron often spots them tailing or cruising in shallow water before you even cast. The best part about targeting reds in these waters is their abundance – it's not uncommon to catch limits and throw back plenty more, just like those customer reviews mention.
Jack Crevalle might not win any beauty contests, but they're absolute bruisers that will test your tackle and your arms. These silver bulldogs show up in schools throughout the Mississippi Sound, especially during summer months when baitfish are thick. Jacks hit hard, run fast, and fight dirty – they'll use every trick in the book to throw your hook or break you off on structure. Most of the jacks you'll encounter range from 5 to 15 pounds, though bigger ones cruise these waters regularly. They're not the best eating fish, so most anglers release them to fight another day, but if you want to experience what a Gulf Coast gamefish fight feels like, hooking into a school of jacks will give you all the action you can handle. Captain Ron knows the spots where jacks congregate, and when they're feeding, you can literally catch them on every cast.
Sharks add serious excitement to any Gulf Coast fishing trip, and the waters around Gulfport hold healthy populations of blacktip sharks, bull sharks, and spinner sharks. Blacktips are probably the most common catch – these athletic sharks love shallow water and put on quite a show with their jumping ability when hooked. Most blacktips you'll encounter range from 3 to 6 feet, perfect size for a memorable fight without being dangerous to handle.
